Introduction

This is a practical course where students develop their own business ideas through strategic planning and working on their own ventures. Through team work, the students are expected to develop strategies which detail how the venture expects to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage in the future.

Attendence in lectures and work outside of class is expected.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge
  • An intermediary understanding of the theory of effectual entrepreneurship
  • An elementary understanding of the theory of the resource-based view
Learning outcomes - Skills
  • Be able to lead and mentor a team towards stated goals
  • Be able to cooperate and motivate others through teamwork
  • Identify and evaluate the critical resources and potential competitive advantages of a business idea
  • Understand and argue for possible sources of competitive advantages for a business idea
  • Be able to write a business plan summarizing findings based on primary- and secondary data sources 
General Competence

During the course, which builds on ENT 3501 Business Development I, students will gain real world experience related to teamwork and the process of starting a new venture. Herein, the students will be challenged on the viability of their chosen business idea, including how they plan to establish a sustainable competitive advantage for the business in the long term. As a function of working in teams throughout the course, the students will gain insight into the complexity of management, motivation and team-based work towards common goals.

Teaching and learning activities

Classroom activities wil consist of lectures and workshops. Between lectures students are expected to organize their own schedule and work on the exam in teams.

Emphasis will be placed on attendence and participation.
