Candidate Profile

The MSc in Leadership and Organisational Psychology is a two-year full-time graduate programme designed for students with a bachelor’s degree in either a business administration related programme, or with a specialisation in psychology, organisational science, economics, political science, sociology, education or social anthropology. The programme attracts students with interests in organisational processes and human psychology and behaviour in the workplace. 

The programme is taught entirely in English and the students are both Norwegian and international.

Learning outcomes

The MSc in Leadership and Organisational Psychology combines a rigorous theoretical and research approach with real-world applications. Courses are designed to teach students how to critically think and apply theoretical frameworks to work life situations. Today’s organisations face growing demands connected to the rapidly changing dimensions of work through digitalisation, increasing diversity, and the need to address sustainability.  Students will learn why people, social relationships, leadership and human resource development are critical for organisations to succeed in reaching their strategic goals and objectives. The overall aim of the MSc is to prepare the students for taking an active part in diverse teams, leadership, and organisational processes necessary for organisational effectiveness, inclusion, and growth.

Learning outcome - Knowledge

The candidate:

  • has advanced knowledge of theories and research in organisational behaviour, organisation science, and leadership.
  • can explain how individual, group, and organisational factors influence organisational performance, problem solving, employee well-being, and decision making.
  • is able to analyse leadership and organisational problems and challenges using current theory and research.
  • can assess the validity and reliability of psychological assessment and testing.
  • can describe and know how to use the central research methods within leadership and organisational psychology.
Learning outcome - Skills

The candidate:

  • can apply the psychological theory, methods, and tools in organisations (such as, job analysis, selection, job satisfaction, diversity management, stress reduction, leadership, motivation recruitment, decision-making, strategic thinking, creativity, and team work).
  • has the ability to critically assess scientific articles within leadership and organisational psychology.
  • can conduct scientific research within the field of leadership and organisational psychology.
  • can design and carry out research and development projects for organisations.
  • can communicate and present analysis effectively.
  • is able to work successfully in groups.
Learning outcome - General Competence

The candidate:

  • can demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate and challenge current practices in the broad areas of human resources and management.
  • is able to analyse actions and interventions in organisations based on strategic benefit, organisational values, ethical considerations, the problems of mobilising and motivating people, as well as, assess the potential consequences for individuals and the organisation.

Information

Students not on exchange or must choose four elective courses (24 ECTS) in their third semester. Students who choose internship will have two elective courses in addition to their internship course. Internship students must select two elective courses of four; GRA 2257 Human Resource Management, GRA 2235 Recruitment, Training and Development, GRA 2237 Counselling, GRA 6294 Labour Law and Labour Economics. These courses will be taught intensively.

In the fourth semester, students must choose one elective course.
