MSc in Leadership and Organizational Psychology
MSc in Leadership and Organizational Psychology 2012-2014
The MSc in Leadership and Organisational Psychology (MSc LOP) is a two-year full-time graduate programme mainly for students with a bachelor’s degree in either a business administration related programme, or with a specialisation in psychology, organisation, economics, political science, sociology, education or social anthropology. The programme attracts students with an interest in organisational processes and the importance of human factors in the workplace. The programme is taught entirely in English and has a deliberate international emphasis. The student population is international and culturally diverse.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Students in the MSc LOP programme will receive a thorough understanding of organisational behavior, how individual, group and organisational factors influence organisational performance, problem solving and decision making. The programme will also provide students with solid knowledge of leadership theory and research, with focus on application to the tasks and challenges of management. Courses are designed to teach students how to apply a theoretical framework to real life organisational problems, enabling them to understand the importance of human resource development and its contribution in reaching strategic goals and objectives. The overall ambition is to prepare the students for taking an active part in organisational processes necessary for organisational effectiveness and growth.
Skills
The MSc LOP combines a rigorous theoretical and research approach with real-world applications. Students will learn how to use psychological theory and methods in areas such as recruitment and training, work motivation, job satisfaction, health, leadership, decision-making, strategic thinking and creativity, team work, organisational change and development. Students will also have analytical skills that enable them to critically evaluate research as well as design and carry out research and development projects for organisations. This will be accomplished through a structured learning environment where a solid theoretical understanding will be acquired during the programme, complimented with practice oriented problem-solving ability in more case-oriented courses.
Reflection
Topics covered enable students to critically evaluate and challenge current practices in the broad area of human resource management. Students will learn to evaluate actions and interventions in organisations with consideration of strategic benefit, the problems of mobilising people, as well as the potential consequences for individuals and the organisation. The breadth of their skills will enable students to apply their knowledge to many areas of organisational work. In addition, students shall evaluate their work with an ethical perspective.
