Introduction

This is a practical course where students are taught how to find business ideas, conduct feasibility studies, work on problem solving and idea development. By working in teams the students will by the end of the semester deliver a business plan for an idea of their own choosing and pitch the idea orally in front of an audience.

Attendance in lectures and work beyond classes is expected.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge
  • An elementary understanding of the theory of effectual entrepreneurship
  • An elementary understanding of various ideas, theories and frameworks related to feasibility studies and business development for new ventures
Learning outcomes - Skills
  • Evaluate and conclude about the market potential of a business idea
  • Gain experience with identifying and contacting relevant stakeholders and acquiring and structuring primary data obtained through interviews;
  • Gain experience with acquiring secondary data
  • Gain experience with teamwork and networking
  • Be able to construct and present a business idea in writing and orally
  • Be able to write a business plan summarizing findings made through collecting data from primary- and secondary sources
  • Be able to conceptualize relevant phenomena within entrepreneurship and business development through the application of relevant theory
General Competence

During the course, the students will gain real world experience related to the testing and evaluation of business ideas and the idea of starting a new venture. Herein, the ability to critically reflect over market-, societal and financial consequences related to each step of the commercialization process. Communication within each team and towards external stakeholders, trial-and-error in practice and reflection is central to the course.

Teaching and learning activities

Classroom activities will consist of lectures and workshops. Between lectures students are expected to organize their own schedule and work on the exam in teams.

Emphasis will be placed on attendance and participation.

Re-sit examination

Starting in the spring of 2024, the form of evaluation in this course has changed from three exam codes (ENT 35014, ENT 35015 and ENT 35016) to two exam codes (ENT 35017 and ENT 35018).

A re-sit examination is offered in the former exam codes ENT 35014, ENT 35015 and ENT 35016 in autumn 2023 and last time in spring 2024.
