Diplomeksportmarkedsførerstudiet

Diplomeksportmarkedsførerstudiet (The Bachelor’s Program in International Marketing)

The Bachelor’s Program in International Marketing This is an integrated domestic and foreign program of 4 years duration. This program in international marketing aims at developing the students, academically and professionally, to a level where they are able to enter leading positions in internationally oriented businesses. Considerable emphasis is placed on developing the students' language skills, as well as their understanding of culture and markets in either the German, French, Spanish or English speaking trade areas of Europe respectively. The program was developed in 1979/80 in response to strong signals from the central government and from Norwegian business and industry. The Norwegian Government and National Assembly stated that a stronger market and international orientation of Norwegian economic activity would be a matter of national priority, and that one of the means to achieve this would be specific purpose education.

Program objectives

  • The program aims at educating highly qualified and application oriented marketers.
  • On completion of their studies the students are expected to possess the necessary requirements for performing in operative and management positions in governmental and private export organizations and businesses.
  • The students are expected to achieve a high level of competency in marketing in an international environment, thus enabling them to contribute to the international reorientation of Norwegian business and industry.
  • The program must conform with high academic standards.

Admission requirements See “Studieforskrifter for NMH” in Norwegian for information on general requirements. Before starting the first credit course in languages, NMH requires a certain minimum language proficiency.

Teaching methods The part of the program offered abroad is quite demanding on the students. The program progresses from the theoretical basis towards practical applications, from general towards in-depth, specialized knowledge, from closely teacher-guided lectures and individual study towards independently chosen field work and projects, and from a Norwegian place of study, instruction and exams, towards study in a foreign environment. Teaching methods vary from country to country, depending on their culture and traditions. The Germans have a tradition for “dialogue lectures”, the British have a strong case orientation, and the Latins are used to a formal distance between teacher and student. The student will have to adjust to the particular foreign setting.

Program structure The Bachelor's Program in International Marketing is composed of a two-year general business and marketing study in Norway (The Associate Degree Program in Marketing and Internationalization), followed by a one and a half years specialization period, conducted abroad.
