KLS 3553 Starting a venture in creative industry
Entrepreneurship is a key competence in today's working life in general and in creative industries in particular. The course is based on the model from the start-up course at the Bachelor program in Entrepreneurship, but focused on creative industry.
This is a practical course where the students work with problem solving, idea development, commercialization and setting up a business within the creative industry. During the course, the students will start, run and possibly close a business, either as a student company or as an ordinary company. The course follows the framework for JA Worldwide. Participation in hours and work is expected beyond the lectures. Status reports prior to each lecture through short videos. There are sales requirements for the student companies that are set in consultation with the class.
During the course, students will acquire general knowledge of:
- How to identify a business idea, form a team, register, startup and operate
- A startup company's operational functions and management systems
- Challenges related to startup, resources and time
- Opportunities and challenges in marketing and sales to the corporate and retail markets
- Network utilization in practice
- Ability to operationalize a business plan
- Validate and clarify market potential for your startup
- Be able to present the core idea, what is done and that can be done better
- Use video tools to convey status reports to the class and lecturer
- Experience in collaboration to reach a startup (corporate) goal
- Designing, implementing and reflecting on a company's organizational process
- Reflect on goal achievement (turnover requirements)
Through participation, students will gain experience with real choices related to the idea, commercialization, registration and operation of a company. Secondly, the ability to critically reflect on the ethical and economic consequences of how the process works from idea to operation. Communication within the team, feedback exercises and reflection is central to the course.

The teaching deals with central themes in starting and organizing a new business, but emphasizes progress and sharing. Students will prepare a dated weekly written log throughout the semester based on reflection questions presented in each lesson. This log forms the basis for the written assessment in the course.
After organizing and selecting themes for their startup, the students will deliver status videos on Itslearning. These videos also form the basis of the oral assessment in the course. Sales and status presentations are practiced in the lectures.
Feedback is also provided on the business plan before final submission.

A course of 1 ECTS credit corresponds to a workload of 26-30 hours. Therefore a course of 7,5 ECTS credit corresponds to a workload of at least 200 hours.
Both parts must be passed to achieve final grade. Time for the individual submissions and oral exam is stated at the start of the course.

Re-take
A re-sit exam will be held at the next ordinary completion of the course. Upon continuation, all examination components must be retaken
