KLS 3551 Creative Industries Management
The creative industry experience is experiencing a tighter framework compared to past times. Consequently, cultural management has become a separate subject to describe more specific challenges and opportunities for leaders in the field of creative industry.
Based on general management and organisational theory, research and knowledge, the course focuses on various challenges related to management in the creative industry. How to combine artistic and creative ambition with financial management? How to succeed with interdisciplinary collaboration? How to lead employees with high demands for autonomy? How to combine innovation and risk with performance requirements? How to creating effective groups for creative processes? How to succeed as a freelancer? How to create growth based on voluntary labour? These demands are met on the basis of six of the most prevalent forms of organization in the field of creative industry 1) institutions 2) groups 3) events 4) freelancers 5) network 6) production.
Students will acquire knowledge of how the most prevalent forms of organization in the field of creative industry are different in regards to management, structure, results, processes and environments. Furthermore, the student will acquire basic knowledge about management and how different types of management produce results.
Students will acquire skills to analyze organizations to describe how they are managed, how they are structured, what is most critical for performance, which processes they create, and how they are affected by and adapt to the environment. Students will specifically acquire skills to uncover challenges with management and organization in the creative industry. A part of the course, students will also acquire skills related to collaboration and teamwork.
Students will develop respect and tolerance for different artistic attitudes and values. Students should especially be able to reflect on how tension between the artistic and the economic creates challenges when results are to be produced. Based on this, students also will develop a basic respect and tolerance for different beliefs and values within management. This will be emphasized through practical tasks related to collaboration and teamwork.

Students will have 30 hours of classroom participation and will be provided a course schedule outlining what the hours will be used for. Classroom time will be used on presentation of up-to-time material, guest speakers, student presentations and training in key subject skills. This will contribute to creating a broader learning process than what the student her/himself might achieve by reading the obligatory syllabus. In addition, students will be given written feedback and guidance on their folder send-ins, which are the basis of assessment for this course.
