Introduction
The Internship includes eight weeks of editorial trainee service in Norwegian media. It can be performed in paper media, broadcasting or digital media.


Learning outcome
Acquired knowledge
The Internship is meant to further develop and deepen the journalistic and editorial knowledge the students have obtained during the first two years at school.

Acquired skills
Through editorial practice, students will:

  • Master the journalistic and editorial skills in a professional newsroom.
  • Be able to publish their work continuously.
  • Be able to relate relevant theory to the editorial practice they are set to be a part of.

Reflection
The students should learn good work ethics. In this the editorial supervisor has an important role, in addition to professional response from editors and colleges.

Prerequisites
To get Internship, the students must have completed all JOU courses in second year.

Course outline
The subjects can vary in different media, but normally it will contain one or more of these subjects:
  • News in media
  • Editing and desk work
  • Reportage and feature.

Computer-based tools
The students use the tools available in the editorial office.

Learning process and workload
The students work normal hours, that is 300 hours during eight weeks. They must be prepared to work some in the weekends. They participate in editorial meetings and follow instructions from the editors.

In June there will be arranged an Internship seminary as well as halfway in the Internship. The students shall write a short Internship report following a special instruction. This report will make the foundation for the final Project paper.

    Examination
    The course concludes with a project paper based on the practice report.
    The project paper will be distributed at practice seminar in June and will be published simultaneously on It's Learning. The project paper must be solved individually and the deadline is the end of the semester.

    Re-sit examination
    This course was lectured for the last time autumn 2012. Re-sit examiniation will be offered spring 2013 and autumn 2013.
