Introduction
Digital enterprise development is concerned with inter and intra-organizational business processes that simplify, automate and enable electronic business. While management and employees carry out knowledge work, information and communication technology handle information work. Students learn how digital business processes cooperate with knowledge processes in the organization and between organizations. Digital enterprise development is based on electronic business concepts and use of information technology to support knowledge work. E-business as a field of study has been captured in terms of two major phases. This course is concerned with the second phase. While the first phase was powerful and too promising, with significant disappointments, the second phase is characterized by a solid theoretical and practical foundation in terms of strategy, business models, value configurations and knowledge management.

Knowledge objectives
At the end of this course, student should have acquired
  • knowledge of key characteristics of digital business development
  • insights into theories and models for development and exploitation of digital business models and processes
  • an understanding of interoperability between supporting technology, processes and business development
  • insights into information technology in knowledge management supporting e-business
  • knowledge in terms of know-what, know-how and know-why related to digital business development in knowledge organizations by applying the value configuration of the value shop.

Skills objectives
At the end of this course, students should have acquired the skill to
  • provide a description of process digitalization
  • analyse consequences for the enterprise when introducing e-business
  • formulate specifications and requirements related to functional features and how they are to be implemented to define knowledge levels and knowledge
  • categories in digital business development

Attitude objectives
At the end of this course, students should have acquired an attitude characterized by
  • a holistic perspective regarding consequences of digital processes, including ethical dilemmas and self-services implications
  • a curiosity to understand knowledge development in e-business
  • an interest in identifying possibilities for digital business in an organization
  • a willingness to champion digital business in a firm
  • an ability to imagine what a digital firm is like

Learning process and workload
This course is lectured in 45 hours and the students are kept activated throughout the course by hand-ins and presentations that will be defined in the beginning of the course.

The subject for the project paper will be published one month after the semester start. Throughout the course, the students are required to give a presentation in the classroom. The feedback given here will be useful input for work on the project paper.

    Examination
    The course is compleeted with a project paper containing about 20 - 30 pages. The project paper can be solved individually or in groups upto 3 students. It is recommended to write the project paper in groups.

    INF 36281 - Project Paper, counts 100% towards the grade in INF 3628 Digital Enterprise Development, 7.5 credits.
