FORK 1004 Academic Skills Sessions
The aim of this course is to introduce knowledge, skills, and reflections that are relevant for managing the demands of a graduate student. Various sets of tools, techniques and methods will be demonstrated to empower the students to excel during their studies.
The course is offered for new students at graduate level.
Participants will acquire knowledge about typical challenges for MSc students. This will be related to the participants in terms of motivation, attitudes, behavior, competence and performance. The knowledge will enable students to better reflect, understand and develop skills in their respective MSc programme.
Students will acquire skills relevant for efficient reading and knowledge processing, cooperation with others, and solving cases and exercises. Several tools related to these topics will be introduced. A special focus will be put on collaboration and skills to enhance teamwork.
Students will also be introduced to some of the standards at BI related to lectures, references, assignments, etc.
During the course participants will reflect on several important aspects of being a student. The reflections will emphasize both the individual, his or her surroundings and the criteria necessary to succeed. Students will be empowered to take the personal responsibility needed in order to finish the programme of their choice at the best of their ability.

The course is offered at the start of the autumn semester over 9 lecture hours.
All courses in the Masters programme will assume that students have fulfilled the admission requirements for the programme. In addition, courses in second, third and/or fourth semester can have spesific prerequisites and will assume that students have followed normal study progression. For double degree and exchange students, please note that equivalent courses are accepted.
