Introduction

This course is about challenges and opportunities for creative industries as a result of digitalisation. The use of digital technology has far-reaching consequences for how creative content is created, disseminated and experienced. Digitization also provides new opportunities and challenges for financing, communication and marketing in the creative industry. In the course, emphasis is placed on the students both developing an understanding of the overall questions the creative industry faces as a result of digitalisation and skills in using digital tools.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge

The student will acquire knowledge of what digital technology is, how digitalisation creates special conditions for the creative industry, and creates opportunities and challenges for how to operate in different parts of the creative industry's value chain.

Learning outcomes - Skills

The student will develop skills for using digital technology in the creative industry, such as marketing creative products and services using social media and financing projects through crowdfunding platforms.

Learning Outcome - Reflection

The student will develop his or her reflection on what the use of digital tools means in a societal perspective and understand ethical issues that arise with the digitalisation of creative industries.

  • Digital forms of financing in creative industries and crowdfunding
  • Use of social media and digital marketing in creative industries
  • Ethics and net neutrality
Learning process and requirements to students

24 hours of teaching will be given in the course's courses and 12 hours for presentations and discussions in class. As part of the learning process, the students will present the project assignment in class during the course. Supervision will also be given to the project assignment in connection with the lectures.

Additional information

The course will be offered as an elective course in autumn 2018, but from spring 2020 this will be included as a programme course in Creative Industries Management 2nd year.
