ENT 3673 Entrepreneurial management
This final course focuses on developing and managing businesses in the start-up phase. Particular attention will be paid to management challenges in the different developmental phases of a start-up business. There will be frequent discussions and visits by experienced entrepreneurs and other experts. Students on the course will also evaluate themselves as entrepreneurs and discuss whether they believe they will run a business in all phases of development or whether they will change roles en route.
Throughout the course students should:
- Develop knowledge of management processes and management challenges of start-up enterprises.
- Learn about the board's role and work.
- Acquire knowledge of what impedes or promotes scaling and super growth.
After completing the course, students will:
- Be able to develop action plans for SMEs
- Be able to perform structured interviews with entrepreneurs
- Be able to present the results of interviews and analysis
Students will develop an understanding of the establishment and growth involves intensive work processes, and thereby show respect for the contractor's situation. They will also be able to reflect on challenges related to the management perspective in the different phases in an entrepreneurial business.

The course consists of 36 hours of lectures, group discussions and business studies. Meetings with entrepreneurs, group work, presentations and discussions will all ensure a high level of interactivity.
Students are expected to attend all lectures and actively contribute to knowledge sharing and class discussion. Attendance is documented by lecturer weekly. Students must solve two assignments to attend the exam, a group assignment and a reflection note (both to be posted on itslearning). Group assignments are distributed at the start of the semester with a deadline for hand-in, and are presented as presentation / lecture with accompanying discussion and questionnaire in plenary. The second assignment is an individual self-assessment (reflection note of approximately 2 pages) that reflects on learning during the semester through active participation in class discussions and curriculum presentations.
It is assumed that the student has a PC and can use standard software and BI's learning platform It's learning.
The course concludes with a maximum of 30 minutes oral individual exam.
The final oral exam, it will be based on the publications (elements in the business plan, etc.) that have been done during the semester, and questions will be asked to test the candidate's understanding of the subject.
Students that have not gotten approved the coursework requirements, must re-take the exercises during the next scheduled course.
Students that have not passed the written examination or who wish to improve their grade may re-take the examination in connection with the next scheduled examination.
