ELE 3637 Internship
The objective with the internship program is to give students the opportunity to combine work experience with studies in a manner that enhances their learning in both situations. By working in an enterprise, the students get to use theories and models they have learnt at school to solve practical tasks. This brings forth the relevance of the academic knowledge. At the same time, the course gives them the opportunity to systematically reflect on their practical work experiences. This prepares them for working life. The business community gets access to updated academic knowledge, able hands and the opportunity to address their needs for new knowledge as they prepare the internship activities for their interns. The student is responsible for finding an internship company.

In internship company: 240 hours
The work tasks must be agreed with the company, including hours to preparatory work with the term paper. The work must be done during the semester through two full workdays (á 8 hours) per week from the start of the semester and until after the last workshop. If needed, the intern and company may agree to a slightly different workload, for example is a trade fair, survey or other activities require the student to work more during some weeks and less other weeks. The length of the internship work in the company shall not exceed 15 weeks calculated from the start of the semester. The work is not paid, and emphasis is on the intern's learning. If the intern wants major changes in the internship conditions, they must be agreed with the company and BI.

4 modules of 6 hours each (3 hours lecture in class on academic questions and the term paper, and 3 hours activity in smaller supervision groups).

This is a course with two exam elements. There must be a written confirmation from the company of completed practice when the student was registered on the course. The student does not need to work another 240 hours in the company in order to take the re-sit exam.
There is a maximum of 60 places per. cohort /class.
This course is defined with English as the language of instruction. However, the language of instruction will be adapted to the groups of students for whom the course is to be taught. The exam paper will be given in Norwegian and English and the students can choose either English, Norwegian or another Scandinavian language for the exam.

Students must have good study progress in the chosen bachelor field and C in average grade. Acceptance on the course will be done on an assessment of all requirements: progress, grades, letter of motivation, CV and learning contract. Ability to read and write English is expected.
To apply, the student must submit a CV, report on grades, a letter of motivation and a signed learning contract with the company. The letter of motivation must contain what the student seeks to achieve in terms of professional development from working in the specific company. The learning contract must describe the intern's role and responsibility during the internship, the expected learning outcome for the intern, the expected practical outcome for the company, progress and name, signature and contact details of the contact person in the company.

Exam category: Activity Form of assessment: Oral examination Weight: 40 Grouping: Individual Duration: 30 Minute(s) Comment: The oral exam is 30 minutes. per student, and is carried out in the following way; 10 minutes presentation, 10 min. conversation with the examiners, 10 minutes when the examiners grade and give the internship student the reasoning for the grade. A course of 1 ECTS credit corresponds to a workload of 26-30 hours. Therefore a course of 15 ECTS credit corresponds to a workload of at least 400 hours.
The term paper is to be submitted individually. The content must be related to the internship company and be based both on the experiences the intern has had and academic research literature. In addition to the term paper itself, the submission must include:
1. Reference list referring to minimum 350 pages academic literature. The students are responsible for choosing the syllabus. It is particularly recommended to choose literature from completed courses, but it is also expected that the students obtain and make use of other specialist literature of relevance to the topic of the term paper. The self-selected syllabus must appear in the reference list and the number of pages must be stated there.
2. Signed confirmation letter from the internship company that the student has been an intern there and an assessment of outcomes according to the learning contract.
