Introduction

The aim of the course is to give the students in-depth understanding of search models of the labor market, and how to simulate and structurally estimate such models.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge

The course aims to take the students to the research frontier in search theorey and structural estimation of search models.

Learning outcomes - Skills

The students are expected to be able to construct and solve search models, solve the models analytically and estimate the models using indirect inference and other estimation techniques.-

General Competence

Understand how search frictions influence and shape price determination and the allocation of resources in markets, particularly the labor market. Understand how search models can be estimated.

Course content

In the first part of the course, extensions of the basic search models of the labor market are presented, including the DMP model with on-the-job search and with endogenous job destruction, as well as the Burdett-Mortensen model and the Postel-Viney Robin model of on-the-job search with extensions. In the second part of the course, the  course presents techniqes for estimating the models using indirect inference.
