BIK 2303 Security Management 3 Responsible for the course Jon Lereim Department Department of Leadership and Organizational Behaviour Term According to study plan ECTS Credits 15 Language of instruction Norwegian Introduction The speciality program on Security Management consists of three independent courses, although building upon each other in sequence (SL1 prior to SL2 and SL2 prior to SL3). When the exams are passed in all three courses, the program is approved to give 30 study points in the degree Bachelor of Management study. The following courses are included in the program:
Learning outcome Security Management 3 is building on Security Management 1 and 2 Part 1 of Security Management 3 is related to security culture and behaviour. Part 2 is focusing on security and risk management. Both modules are designed for the management perspective of security issues. Part 1 Security Culture and behaviour When part 1 of Security management 3 is completed, the participants will have achieved in-depth knowledge about the importance and impact of security culture and behaviour. Particular focus is placed on continuous improvement in security related topics within the organizational culture, behaviour and management systems, as well as planning and monitoring performance activities within the area of improved security culture and behaviour. Part 2 Security and risk management When part 2 of security management 3 is completed, the participants will know the basic models for security and risk management, and will have achieved more in-depth knowledge about the economic consequences if vital security issues are not taken care of. Various analytic tools shall briefly be demonstrated. This includes different ways of calculating the economic consequences of lacking security and risk management. Prerequisites Security Management 1 is completed, and the candidate is enrolled in all three courses in Security Management. Compulsory reading Books: Grønn, Erik. 1998. Computer-based tools itslearning Learning process and workload The course is designed with 4 plenary modules, each of 3 days' duration. In total the effort is 96 lectures including group work and plenary discussions. In addition, the students are expected to perform self study and extensive work with the scientific assignment with particular focus on cases related to his/her own job and organization. Theory is combined with “outdoor training” for practising problem solving connected to security and safety management. Particular focus is placed on Crisis management with practical training in typical conditions in which threat is a predominant characteristic. Confident security and safety management are required. Lecturers are specialists and advisors from Norwegian Security Association, BI Norwegian Business School, and from other expert societies within Security management. Guest lecturers will also be introduced. In addition, study visits to various organizations are included in the program. The pedagogic learning profile is to a large extent the so called action based learning, in which interactive discussions and sharing experiences are key elements. Examination The course will be terminated by completion of a project assignment. The project assignment shall be related to any of the main topics lectured. Supervising will be done during the course period. Examination code(s) BIK 23031 Project assignment counts 100 % for the final score on this course.
