Introduction
The purpose of this course is to provide an understanding of the various transportation modes used in international transports, with an emphasis on multimodal transport operations. It provides a further framework around shipping management, and helps to relate sea transportation in relation to other transport modes.
Learning outcome
Acquired knowledge
After the course students shall have learned:
- To understand the concept of multimodal transportation
- To understand the benefits and costs related to various transportation modes
- To understand the impact on supply chain efficiency of alternative transport choices
Acquired skills
After the course students shall be able to:
- Describe and explain alternative transport systems
- Describe and analyse cost efficiency of alternative shipping systems
- Discuss competition between modes
Reflection
Students schould be able to evaluate the relationship between transport choice decisions and supply chain effectiveness.
Prerequisites
Introductory course in Maritime Industry.

The course consists of 45 hours of lectures and group work.

A three hour individual written exam concludes the course.
