MRK 3555 Supply Chain Management
Supply Chain Management (SCM) is a topic of high importance. In times of challenges like climate issues, pandemic, and war, we have seen that international supply chain management has been critical to ensure necessary supplies of goods to consumers in all global markets. The purpose of this course is to provide a fundamental understanding of SCM. The course cover subject fields like sourcing, inventory, forecasting, logistics and transport. We work with how to deliver customer value at a minimum total cost and learn the importance of taking a chain perspective. Supply chains compete against supply chains, which require an understanding of information sharing, coordination and collaboration in business relationships. The course will also address sustainability, and discuss the triple bottom line dimensions of social, environmental, and economic performance.
After the course students shall have learned:
- To understand the concept of supply chain management, which consist of optimizing parts and taking an overall view of the chain at the same time
- To understand the significance of information sharing and collaboration in supply chains
- To understand how to build a sustainable supply chain
After completed course students should be able:
- To describe and map a supply chain for a particular product, consisting of activities, processes, and companies, to illustrate the flow of goods.
- To apply relevant concepts, frameworks, and theories to analyze a supply chain. Be able to do basic supply, inventory and transportation calculations and using a tool like Excel for the purpose.
- To evaluate key performance indicators in supply chain management and reflect over relevant decisions.
- Be able to describe and explain a supply chain for a certain product, consisting of companies, activities, and its flow of goods
- Be able to apply relevant concepts and theories to analyze a supply chain
- Be able to map and analyze international supply chains
After completed course students should:
- Be able to understand what type of decisions are taken in supply chain management, how these decisions impact the whole supply chain, and the role individual companies have and take in a supply chain, and how to build a sustainable supply chain.
- What is supply chain management
- The concepts and tools to analyze supply chains
- Information sharing and collaboration across the supply chain
- Practicing supply chain management through an online role play called “the supply chain game”.
- To evaluate sustainability in a supply chain.
- Important decisions in international supply chains
The course consists of 45 hours of lectures including group work, cases, excursions and discussions.
