In this course, the student will be trained in digital innovation using an innovation process (e.g. the Innovator’s method), a digital toolkit (such as this board in Miro: https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_lTb16JQ=/  ). The course will combine theories of innovation with a hands-on process, resulting in a prototype. The course builds on the conceptual program courses, enabling students to see digitally enabled busines opportunities.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge

After completing the course, a candidate will have developed knowledge in:

  • Innovation, different types of innovation and innovation processes
  • How to align the choice of approach to uncertainties of a situation
  • Common innovation approaches such as Design Thinking, Lean Startup and agile development (Scrum)
  • An end-to-end process for digital innovation, including tools and techniques
  • Prototyping of a value proposition
Learning outcomes - Skills

After completing the course, a candidate will be able to:

  • Run an innovation process to develop a prototype for a digital solution
  • Choose and apply tools and techniques for digital innovation
  • Develop a digital solution that solves a user or customer problem
  • Use common digital tools that supports an innovation process
General Competence

The candidates should be able to reflect on their own role in an innovation process, being part of a team and how one’s own behavior contributes to a valuable result. They should also be able to reflect on ethical, legal and sustainability implications of digital innovation.

Teaching and learning activities

The course includes lectures on new topics and workshops that focus on practicing innovation.

Workshop sessions are designed to be interactive with group activities, student-led discussions, and coaching. Attendance and participation in class is expected.    

Software tools[1]

Virtual Desktop (VDI), tools for collaboration (e.g. Slack, Jira and Confluence), creation of digital mock-ups (e.g. Marvel App), no-code or low-code tools and digital whiteboards (e.g. Miro or Mural).
