Introduction

How do managers in private and public sector make their decisions? What are the principles they follow when they make decisions, and why is it that the results of the decisions do not always turn out as expected? As citizens we daily observe decision outcomes in the form of changes in prices, interest rates and exchange rates.

This program aims at giving you a more thorough understanding of why managers decide as they do. This kind of knowledge is very useful for all citizens in a society and is of particular importance to managers.

Former students have characterised the program as "instructive", "very good", "absorbing" and as giving "new insights". This is due to the fact that we have combined useful and applicable pieces of knowledge from various subjects such as economics, economic history and business management. These pieces of knowledge are presented in a pedagogical context which enables you to exploit your experience, profit by a motivating learning environment and perceive mastering and learning.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge

After having completed the program you should have gained knowledge about how economic circumstances and economic policy affect results we daily observe. You should also know how to keep yourself updated in each discipline.

Learning outcomes - Skills

After completing the program you should be able to interpret economic conditions in the community and integrate these into your leadership decisions. You should also be able to communicate economic information and discuss the importance and implications for your organization.

Project tutorials differ in each Executive Master of Management programme. It will consist of personal tutorials and tutorials given in class. Generally the students may expect consulting tutorials, not evaluating tutorials. The total hours of tutorials offered is estimated to 4 hours per term paper.

Please note that while attendance is not compulsory in all programmes, it is the student's own responsibility to obtain any information provided in class that is not included on the course homepage/ itslearning or other course materials.

The students are evaluated through a term paper, counting 60% of the total grade and a 3 hour individual exam at the school counting 40%. The term paper may be written individually or in groups of maximum three persons. All evaluations must be passed to obtain a certificate for the programme.

The term paper is included in the degree’s independent work of degree, cf national regulation on requirements for master’s degree, equivalent to 18 ECTS credits per. programme. For the Executive Master of Management degree, the independent work of degree represents the sum of term papers from three programmes.
