Introduction

    Objective
    The aim of the course is to give the students an overview of the activities of the performing arts - theatre, opera, ballet and music (live) - in Norway. The course includes a presentation of the general characteristics of the field’s activities, its history and forms of organization, its relation to cultural policy and finally a presentation of the current challenges in the market for the performing arts, nationally and internationally. These presentations will provide an understanding of the present-day situation. By the end of the course, the students are expected to have the ability to analyze various aspects of the field of performing arts.

        Public support, private sponsorship and the market
    • Forms of organization in the activities of performing arts
        Institutions, projects, festivals and hybrid forms
    • Challenges in the market for the performing arts

    Computer-based tools
    Computer-based tools are not used in this course

    Course structure
    The course consists of 36 hour lessons. The students are advised to form discussion groups for the study of the course literature and if desired also for cooperation during the three-day examination work.


    Examination
    The course ends with a 72-hour take-home examination to be performed individually or by groups up to three students.

    Re-sit examination
    This course was lectured for the last time autumn 2010. A re-sit exam will be offered every term from autumn 2011 even spring 2013.
