Introduction
This course in labour legislation provides basic knowledge necessary for executive positions in private industry and in the public sector.
Learning outcome
Acquired knowledge
During the course the students shall
- Learn the main rules in labour law
- Gain an insight into external conditions for human resource management in the private, municipal and government sector.
Acquired skills
After having completed the course the students shall be able to:
- Apply laws and regulations in labour law
- Appoint new employees
- Terminate an employment contract, which includes carrying out a workforce reduction process, as well as formulate, interpret and apply employment contracts as defined in labour law.
Reflection
Students shall become aware of ethical issues involved in the interaction between human values and laws and regulations in labour law.

Learning process and workload
The course duration is 45 hours, of which 35 hours are regular lectures and 10 hours are dedicated to exercises and seminars.
The students shall work on exercises for each topic which will later be discussed in class. This form of teaching requires that students prepare for class by reading the syllabus and the relevant rules of law. Students are expected to bring support materials especially the statute book to class so that they become familiar with using them when studying the various topics. On the whole, only central issues in the syllabus will be covered and discussed during the lectures. Parts of the syllabus mustl be acquired through self-tuition. The lecture plan will provide detailed information on the various topics both the general and specific parts.

Examination
A three-hour individual written exam concludes the course.
