Introduction


    Learning outcome
    In this course, students will learn to create feature journalism in print and online. The aim is that, through lectures and practical exercises combined with response in workshops, students will learn how to handle the feature forms in reporting and feature. The course will collect stories primarily from finance and business, and focus on good reading experiences and knowledge. Burrowing journalism is often about complicated and complex subject matter, and the idea is that the feature form can help create coherence and understanding. The main platforms will be printed newspaper / magazine and newspaper. Students will develop knowledge of feature journalism in written media and online through digital storytelling. The course will stimulate students' language sense and stylistic awareness.

    Acquired Knowledge
    During the course, students will:
    • Develop knowledge of reportage theory and history.
    • Develop knowledge of the observation that journalistic method.
    • Learn about Feature - or feel journalism - the development and characteristics.
    • Acquire knowledge of feature journalism and news feature as a separate genre.
    • Develop an understanding of the interactions between text, images and sound in multimedia storytelling.

    Acquired Skills
    Students shall after the course be able to create feature reports and feature articles. They should be able to use literary techniques and feature techniques like raising the reading experience. They should know basic digital storytelling.

    Reflection
    Students will gain an awareness of the distinction between feature and fiction. Furthermore, they could reflect on their own role as feature, explanatory and interpretative convey and relations with sources in reporting and feature journalism.

    Prerequisites
    Completed courses in Journalism News and Investigative Journalism.

      Examination
      The final grade in the course is determined on the basis of the following elements:

      Part 1: Portfolio, 60%
      The portfolio must be submitted for grading at the end of the semester, and will consist of:
      - A written feature journalism in text form. Alternatively, a digital journalistic feature (motion pictures with audio, or still pictures with audio and text). If you supply a digital journalistic feature must be provided on USB memory key labeled with your student number and course code.
      - Self-assessment (see description under Learning Process).
      The submission shall be resolved individually.

      Part 2: An individual 72-hour take-home exam counts 40%.
      Home exam will be distributed at the end of the semester, and shall be resolved individually.

      Both the portfolio and take home exam must be passed to obtain a final grade in the course.

      Re-sit examination
      The course was lectured last time spring 2012.
      An extraordinary re-sit examination will be offered continuation spring 2014, the last time spring 2015 (adopted by UUV 24.09.13).
