Introduction How to understand organization in action and people’s behaviour? How do we organize work processes, management systems and how do we design organizations and develop corporate culture to fit the main value creating processes so that organizations reach their goals in an effective way? These are the fundamental questions of this course.
Learning outcome Acquired knowledge: The students should at the end of this course have a thorough understanding of the five basic functions all managers perform: planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling. They should be familiar with different modern approaches to understand organization in action and connecting the understanding of designing organizations with the understanding of people’s behaviour in organizations. They should know different fundamentals of organizational structuring such as; coordinating mechanisms, basic organizational parts, design parameters, planning and control systems, centralizations vs. decentralization and different organizational configurations. Acquired skills: The main approach will be to look upon organizations as open systems and show that different situations and topics need different organizational design and management system. A main point linked to this approach is that there is no one “best” way of organizing and manage – it depends..The students should have the skills to discuss which desin might be appropriate. Reflection: Students should after this module, have a much better understanding of how to organize and manage in different situations.
Prerequisites Bachelor degree or equivalent, 4 years work experience, managerial experience and good written and oral knowledge of the English language. Please confirm our Student regulations.

Learning process and workload The course is conducted as a teaching module, where students have classes all day for 3 1/2 subsequent days, a total of 36 hours.
Examination Evaluation will be based on:
· Group Assignment/presentation (40%)
· Final Exam (60%)
Examination code(s) GRA 81171 - Process evaluation; accounts for 100% to pass the program GRA 8117; 6 credits.
The course is part of a full MBA and all evaluations must be passed in order to obtain a certificate for the degree.

Re-sit examination Re-takes are only possible at the next time a course will be held. When course evaluation consists of class participation or process elements, the whole course must me re-evaluated when a student wants to retake a exam. Retake examinations entail an extra examination fee.
