DRE 7005 Topics in Search Theory
The aim of the course is to give the students an introduction to search theory with applications particularly to labor economics, but also to macroeconomics, industrial organization, housing economics, and financial economics.
The course aims to take the students to the research frontier on topics related to search theorey with applications.
The students are expected to be able to construct and solve search models, solve the models analytically and estimate the models using indirect inference and other estimation techniques.-
Understand how search frictions influence and shape price determination and the allocation of resources in markets, particularly the labor market.
In the first part of the course, the main search models of the labor market are discussed. These include the Diamond- Mortensen- Pissarides model, the Lucas and Prescott model, the Jovanovic model, and the Burdett- Mortensen model. Then we look at various extensions of the models with applications to product market search, monetary theory, financial markets and housing.
Students are required to participate in class both in discussions and by presenting models/material from the reading lists.6 lecture hours will be used for exercises and for giving direct feedback to students. -

Enrollment in a PhD programme is a general requirement for participation in PhD courses at BI Norwegian Business School.
External candidates are kindly asked to attach confirmation of enrollment in a PhD programme when signing up for a course. Other candidates may be allowed to sit in on courses by approval of the course leader. Sitting in on a course does not permit registration for the course, handing in exams or gaining credits for the course. Course certificates or confirmation letters will not be issued for sitting in on courses.
