Introduction

This course is aimed at school and kindergarten managers. The course aims to improve educational leaders' competence in planning, implementing and evaluating change and development work. Educational institutions' environment is becoming more changeable and demanding, and it is challenging for managers to meet this in a good way. This requires a manager who is able to critically reflect on one’s own and others' role in improvement work and who can involve and engage employees in ways that look after them while prioritizing children’s learning. It is crucial that the manager is able to involve and create good interaction processes with all the various partners in the school and kindergarten.

The aim of this leadership education is to give the individual leader up-to-date knowledge and skills in the role of change leader in schools and kindergartens.

The program has been developed for the Directorate of Education.

‒ can analyze and relate critically to various sources of information and use these to carry out change and development work in their own organization

‒ can analyze existing theories, methods and interpretations within involving change management and work independently with practical and theoretical problem solving

‒ can use relevant methods for professional development work in an independent manner, including implementing measures to raise employees' competence, create a collective learning culture, and strengthen the company's innovative capacity.

‒ can carry out an independent, limited research or development project under supervision and in line with applicable research ethical norms and in ways that safeguard employees' motivation, creativity and participation while at the same time that the children's learning and development have the highest priority

Course content

Session 1: Identify development and change needs

Goal:

- To see the school's and nursery school's social responsibility in light of the need for change and development as well as to become familiar with thinking and skills related to critical reflection and involving change management.

Theme:

- The school's and kindergarten's social responsibility

- The goal for the course and for management in schools and kindergartens

- Presentation of process design for project assignment and work between assemblies

- Learning leadership

 

Session 2: Planning and leading development and change work

Goal:

- To learn about the involvement and commitment of employees in the development work

- To be able to build a culture for change and development

- To be able to analyze the business's needs for development

Theme:

- Organizational learning, theories for involving implementation

- Employee involving change management

- Planning, implementation, experimentation, prototype thinking of change processes

 

Session 3: Being a change leader

Goal:

- Understand your own role in change and development work

Theme:

- Motivation orientation

- Mindset

- Become aware of your own motivation, agenda and vision

 

Session 4: Leading community

Goal:

- To increase knowledge and skills in creating good structures and processes for interaction

Theme:

- Professional learning communities and learning meetings

- Leading in teams

- Leading in networks

 

Session 5: Evaluating development and change work

Goal:

- To increase knowledge and skills related to the evaluation of change work

Theme:

- Data use (information about learning or behavior change)

- Implementation determinants and outcomes

Teaching and learning activities

In all BI Executive courses and programs, there is a mutual requirement for the student and the course responsible regarding the involvement of the student's experience in the planning and implementation of courses, modules and programmes. This means that the student has the right and duty to get involved with their own knowledge and practice relevance, through the active sharing of their relevant experience and knowledge.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree, corresponding to 180 credits from an accredited university, university college or similar educational institution. The applicant must be at least 25 years of age and at least four years of work experience. For applicants who have already completed a master’s degree, three years of work experience are required.
