Introduction

This course deals with various live-based cultural experiences that include festivals, concerts, cultural institutions, opera and theaters, ballet / dance and events. The live industries produce and offer unique cultural and community experiences. This has a number of consequences for how organizations and projects operate and work in practice. These industries create live moments, and the audience must visit the event on the spot, as opposed to digital cultural consumption. The live industries are also affected by digitalization through streaming concerts and performances, through social media and digital marketing tools. The live industries are also important in other industries: Tourists travel to visit live events, and live actors are profiling and developing places.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge

In the course, students will acquire knowledge of the live industry's characteristics, actors, funding, markets, audience, digitization and the importance of the industry for tourism and place development. Students will also acquire knowledge of public and private funding, as well as characteristics of management of creative activities.

Learning outcomes - Skills

In the course, students will develop skills related to obtaining private and public funds in the live industries. They will also develop skills to manage creative professions and projects.

General Competence

During the course, students will develop respect for both the artistic and the economic aspects that characterize the live industries.

• What are the live industries? - about what it means economically, artistically and organizationally that a cultural experience is alive
• Actors and value chains
• Value added, employment and profitability
• Public and private funding; the Ministry of Culture and the Norwegian Arts Council, cultural sponsorship, the market, etc.
• The consumer market, the corporate market and the internal market
• The audience and consumption patterns
• The possibilities and challenges of digitization for the performative live industries
• The importance of the live industries for tourism, and place development

The course is conducted with lectures and student presentations.
