Introduction

The course gives an introduction to the main business law topics. Knowledge about the legal framework in business and industry is decisive for setting up and keeping a business alive, regardless of line of business. A basic understanding of ownership, directors’ liability, employer’s liability and an understanding of contract law provide a competitive advantage. The course will give the students a thorough insight into legal regulation and an introduction to how the rules are to be interpreted. The course focuses primarily on the business law field and is adapted to all study programmes at BI Norwegian Business School.

The students will gain a basic understanding of the legal framework employed in business and industry.

 

Learning outcomes - Skills

The students shall be able to account for the main legal aspects and liabilities related to customers, shareholders and employees. They shall be able to identify legal problems and be capable of analysing problem complexes on the basis of legal sources. The students shall be able to account for and solve legal questions that apply in business and industry.

Learning Outcome - Reflection

The students shall be aware of the grey area outside the clearly defined rules. They shall understand the ethical principles established in legal standards in the legislation, and know how to assess these issues in practice.

Learning process and requirements to students

The course consists of 39 contact hours altogether, with lectures and use of cases and assignments. The students will work on small cases or assignments on each topic. Students are expected to have studied the relevant syllabus material and rules of law to be covered in each lecture.  Students are expected to bring the code of laws and other supporting materials to class, so that they become familiar with using them in the study of various topics. The students are expected to work on cases in Digital fagbok between the lecturing hours. Parts of the syllabus must be acquired through self-tuition. The lectures will mainly cover the most important problem areas only.The lecture plan will show what topics will be covered.

E-learning
In course delivery as online courses, lecturer will, in collaboration with the student administration, organize an appropriate course implementation, combining different learning activities and digital elements on the learning platform. Online students are also offered a study guide that will contribute to progression and overview. Total recommended time spent for completing the course also applies here.

Additional information

Kurset gjennomføres med undervisning i 39 kurstimer, med forelesninger og case. Studentene skal i undervisningen jobbe med mindre case eller kontrolloppgaver tilknyttet hvert emne. Det forutsettes derfor at hjelpemidler og særlig lovsamling medbringes til forelesningene, og at studentene blir fortrolige med dem gjennom studiet av de ulike emner.

Studentene skal mellom forelesningene jobbe med leksjoner tilknyttet hvert emne i Digital fagbok. De enkelte leksjoner består blant annet av kort innføring i teori, kontrollspørsmål, eksempler og case.
