JOU 3658 Journalistic Projects and Ethics Responsible for the course Guri Hjeltnes Department Department of Communication - Culture and Languages Term According to study plan ECTS Credits 7,5 Language of instruction Norwegian Introduction This course builds upon JOU 3557 Investigative journalism. The purpose is to teach the students more about organizing their journalistic work, not leasts in projects. The students shall gain knowledge of the anatomy of the projects, i.e. the different stages of the project, applied journalistic method and presentation. The students themselves shall conduct themselves in investigative projects. Ethical aspects and dilemmas in journalistic projects will be emphasized, including use of the new platforms.

Computer-based tools Learning process and workload The course will be conducted with a combination of lectures and practical exercises and group work and counseling sessions. Students will be activated by working practically and allocate responsibilities as operational editorial staff and discuss the ethical and source critical dilemmas. Students work with a portfolio throughout the semester. Recommended use of hours for the students:
Examination The course concludes with a project paper that must contain following elements: - Self-assessment of their journalistic work and ethical reflections. - A major investigative journalistic work The project paper can be solved individually or in groups of up to three students, and can be delivered digitally on a memory stick or on paper. If the project paper is handed in as a digital project, it must must be delivered on USB memory stick marked with the student number and the exam code. Examination code(s) JOU 36581 - Project paper, counts for 100 % to obtain final grade in JOU 3658 Journalistic Projects and Ethics, 7.5 studiepoeng. Examination support materials All support materials allowed. Re-sit examination The course will be lectured for the last time spring term 2013, and re-sit examiniations will be offered autumn 2013 and spring 2014. Additional information |
