Learning outcomes - Skills

The reading course will focus on broadening the PhD candidate’s research skills by means of mock referee reports and replication exercises of key papers in the specific field of the reading course as well research proposals developed by the PhD candidate.

General Competence

The exposure to the state-of-the-art literature and research methodology for specific fields (and subfields) that are not covered by other PhD course offerings at BI would enhance the PhD candidate’s ability for critical assessment of the underlying assumptions and methods used in modern economic research.

Course content

In recent years, the Norwegian economy has experienced substantial sectoral reallocation, in part due to the decline in the oil price. The goal of this course is to develop an empirical and theoretical toolbox to examine the structural nature of this reallocation and its distributional impact on workers. The final aim is to write a research paper examining sectoral reallocation in Norway, employing the structural frameworks and empirical techniques presented in the course.

Teaching and learning activities
  • Mock referee reports on key papers in the subfield of the reading course.
  • Replication exercises.
  • One on one sessions with supervisor to discuss main papers on the reading list for the course.
