Learning outcomes - Skills

The reading course will focus on broadening the PhD candidate’s research skills by means of mock referee reports and replication exercises of key papers in the specific field of the reading course as well research proposals developed by the PhD candidate.

General Competence

The exposure to the state-of-the-art literature and research methodology for specific fields (and subfields) that are not covered by other PhD course offerings at BI would enhance the PhD candidate’s ability for critical assessment of the underlying assumptions and methods used in modern economic research

Course content

On the output side, firms offer a collection of products to their customers, while on the input side, firms are a collection of workers with different skill sets, performing different tasks. When demand for a firm’s products shifts, how does it adjust its product mix and how does this adjustment at the product level interact with the distribution of skills within the firm? The student will examine this question by building on recent theoretical and empirical advances in the literature on international trade and labor reallocation.

Teaching and learning activities
  • Mock referee reports on key papers in the subfield of the reading course.
  • Replication exercises.
  • One on one sessions with supervisor to discuss main papers on the reading list for the course.
